Samples of ultrastable type Y zeolite have been prepared by the method of McDaniel and Maher. The adsorption and cation-exchange properties of these zeolites have been studied, as well as their catalytic properties in cracking a petroleum feedstock. The hydrogen form of the ultrastable zeolite in equivalent in catalytic properties to the rare-earth form of the original zeolite; in contrast, the conventional hydrogen form of the zeolite has a considerably lower lined-out activity. The ultrastable zeolite has a lower cation-exchange capacity than the original NaY zeolite. 3 tables.
