Title: Personnel electronic neutron dosimeter

Abstract

A personnel electronic dosimeter includes a neutron-proton and neutron-alpha converter for providing an electrical signal having a magnitude proportional to the energy of a detected proton or alpha particle produced from the converter, a pulse generator circuit for generating a pulse having a duration controlled by the weighed effect of the amplitude of the electrical signal, an oscillator enabled by the pulse for generating a train of clock pulses for a time dependent upon the pulse length, a counter for counting the clock pulses, and an indicator for providing a direct reading and aural alarm when the count indicates that the wearer has been exposed to a selected level of neutron dose equivalent.

  • A description is given of a personnel neutron dosimeter capable of indicating the complete spectrum of the neutron dose received as well as the dose for each neutron energy range therein. The device consists of three sets of indium foils supported in an aluminum case. The first set consists of three foils of indium, the second set consists of a similar set of indium foils sandwiched between layers of cadmium, whereas the third set is similar to the second set but is sandwiched between layers of polyethylene.   • A personnel neutron dosimeter is described. It consists of a single recorder and a (n,..cap alpha..) radiator wherein exposure to two levels of neutron energy produces differing plural forms of damage sites in the recorder. Damage sites, upon development will differ sufficiently in character or as to location on the recorder to permit separate identification and measurement of the neutron dose received from two portions of the neutron spectrum. 7 claims.
