P-odd effects in radiative capture of pions

P-odd effects in radiative capture of slow pions by nucleons are discussed. Their magnitude is determined by the weak ..pi..NN interaction constant f/sub ..pi..//sub N//sub N/, so that measurement of parity-noncon-servation effects will permit direct determination of the constant f/sub ..pi..//sub N//sub N/ . The parity- nonconservation effects are manifested most strongly in the dependence of the cross section for radiative capture ..pi../sup -/p..-->..n..gamma.. on the helicity of the target proton. The asymmetry of the cross section in this process can reach approx. =5 x 10/sup -7/.
