Iron alloy Fischer-Tropsch catalysts--2. Carburization studies of the Fe-Ni system

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)
The carbide formation and coke deposition on previously characterized silica-supported iron, iron-nickel, and nickel catalysts were studied by temperature-programed and isothermal carburization with carbon monoxide or 3:1 hydrogen/carbon monoxide mixtures. The iron catalyst was incompletely carburized; the addition of nickel to the iron enhanced both carbide formation and coking in H/sub 2//CO, and it stabilized the mixed metal carbide to approx. 500/sup 0/C. Models for the surface reactions in the presence and absence of hydrogen were developed.
