This summary book is published annually to provide information on research supported by the Department of Energy's Division of Chemical Sciences, which is one of five Divisions of the Office of Basic Energy Sciences in the Office of Energy Research. These summaries provide the scientific and technical public as well as the legislative and executive branches of the Government, information, either generally or in some depth, about the Chemical Sciences program. Areas of research supported are indicted in the section headings, the Selected Topics of General Interest'' list, and the summaries themselves. Energy technologies that may be advanced by use of the basic knowledge generated in this program are included in the Selected Topics of General Interest'' list and are often referenced in the summaries.
