Shippingport Atomic Power Station. Technical progress report, July 26, 1982-January 25, 1983
The Shippingport Atomic Power Station was operated with the Light Water Breeder Reactor (LWBR) core primarily at maximum allowable core power levels (base load) until October 1, 1982, when power operations were terminated. The LWBR core had achieved 28,730 EFPH. Several brief reductions in power for testing and maintenance occurred during this period. The end-of-life test program began October 1, 1982, and was completed 30, 1982. Preparation of the plant for defueling was completed and defueling was started on December 7, 1982. The core is being removed so that the spent fuel can be shipped to the Naval Reactors Expended Core Facility for a detailed examination to verify core performance including an evaluation of breeding characteristics.
