Tule Elk oil field is related structurally to Elk Hills oil field. It is located on the northeast flank of the western anticline of the Elk Hills uplift. Contours on the electric-log marker in the shale above the Stevens sand indicated that the Tule Elk oil fields is on a westerly plunging anticlinal fold. Approximately 10,000 ft of sedimentary rocks, ranging in age from late Miocene to Pleistocene, has been penetrated at Tule Elk oil field. The productive zone at Tule Elk, in accordance with common practice, is referred to in this study as the Stevens Sand. All of these stratigraphic units, with the exception of the uppermost beds of the Stevens Sand, are present over the entire area under consideration. The Stevens Sand at Tule Elk oil field appears to be a channel turbidite deposit with an origin west of the San Andreas fault. This sand also appears to be in continuity with the Stevens Sand of McKittrick, Asphalto, and the western end of Elk Hills oil fields.
