Energy management at Dallas/Fort Worth airport

Journal Article · · ASHRAE Trans.; (United States)

It is generally recognized and accepted that the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport is a one of a kind facility. It is not one of a kind when energy management opportunities are being evaluated. All energy cost avoidances were the results of one or both of the following methods: 1. Turn it off when it is not needed. 2. Replace it or improve it with equipment that functions at a higher efficiency. These are exactly the same methods anyone must use to reduce energy consumption in any new or existing facility. Variations of the same management techniques are also applicable in almost any facility. Most definitely the results will be minimal in the long run if dedicated personnel are not applied on a continuous daily basis commensurate with the utility budget. Trained and professional engineers are usually cost effective with annual utility budgets of $750,000 or more.
