Excited quarks and Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism

It is shown that the idea of excited quarks of mass in the range 50--130 GeV is consistent with the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism if their coupling to the quark-gluon system is below a certain limit.
