This patent describes a method of refuse incineration comprising drying the refuse before passing the latter to a boiler adapted to generate high-pressure superheated steam for producing mechanical work in an expander. During the drying step, the wet refuse is heated in a dryer by a heating medium in direct contact to vaporize most of the moisture contained in the refuse to produce vapor, recovering the vapor and confining it into the heating medium.
