Marine production riser and method for installing same

A riser bottom connector system is described for connecting the lower end of a marine riser to the marine bottom, the system comprising: a landing base adapted to be set on the marine bottom, the base comprising: a template; at least one connector head on the template adapted to be connected to the production from a subsea well; a landing mandrel attached to and extending vertically upward from the template and; an inverted cone cover plate attached through its apex to the landing mandrel and extending outward and downward therefrom. The cover plate overlies at least one connector head; the cover plate has at least one opening which is vertically aligned over at least one connector head.
