Hands-on training for practical programs in energy conservation and solarization: the second stage of development

Conference · · Proc. Annu. Meet. - Am. Sect. Int. Sol. Energy Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6442641
Based on a series of experimential solar workshops and three full-scale training programs, Ecotope Group has developed a complete energy conservation and solar curriculum. Divided into seven modules ranging from an introductory energy overview to monitoring of solar domestic hot water and solar space heating systems, the curriculum test is accompanied by a full complement of support materials. Experience has shown that marketable skills in energy audit and solarization work are acquired by the trainees through the hands-on approach, and that the program successfully trains groups with diverse educational and employment backgrounds. The curriculum can be readily taught after only a brief training by persons who are not energy conservation or solar energy experts themselves. Future plans for curriculum development by Ecotope Group include development of additional modules, custom design of curriculum packages and teacher training.
