An introduction is given to the calculation of resonance electromagnetic coupling in the nonrelativistic quark model. Recent improvements brought about by the inclusion of relativistic corrections to the transition operator are described. We show how such calculations may be further improved by the use of relativized-model wave functions, a modestly increased effective quark mass, and an [ital ab] [ital initio] calculation of the signs of the [ital N] [pi] decay amplitudes of the resonances. A summary is given of the results for the photocouplings of all nonstrage baryons, as well as for certain amplitude ratios in electroproduction.
