New method for recording the onset temperature of superconductivity of high-temperature superconductors

A most inexpensive, relatively fast, and accurate method of recording the onset temperature (T/sub c/) of superconductivity of a sample is described in detail. A well-characterized sample of YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 6.5/ and a newly synthesized material of composition TmBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 6.5/ were used to demonstrate the advantage of this new technique of recording the T/sub c/ of a sample. The reproducibility of the measurements was 99%.
