The first publication in the series titled Market Guide for Steam Coal Exports from Appalachia provides a forecast for and analysis of the international market for imported steam coal and the potential U.S. share in this market, particularly for Appalachian producers. The forecast of world steam coal import demand is developed for 1985, 1990, and 1995 for the major coal-using countries in Europe and the Pacific Rim. It predicts a two-fold increase by 1995 in gross domestic steam coal requirements in the countries analyzed, compared with 1979 levels.
