Nature of fast, ''leading'',. pi. /sup +/ mesons in. pi. /sup -/N and. pi. /sup -12/C interactions at 40 GeV/c

It is shown that the sources of the ''leading'' ..pi../sup +/ mesons in ..pi../sup -/N and ..pi../sup -12/C interactions, i.e., those that carry away the largest momentum in an event, are the vector mesons with G parity plus one.
