Operational changes hike propane recovery

By optimizing operational conditions, the Corpoven cryogenic turboexpander plant in eastern Venezuela increased its propane recovery to 95.2% from a design rate of 90% without freezing problems. Its monthly average has been 94%. This increase represents a benefit of approximately 1,000 b/d or $4 million/year of additional propane sales. The plant was designed to recover up to 90% of propane in the inlet gas stream with provisions for future expansion for recovery of 70% of the ethane. This future expansion for ethane recovery will depend primarily on the development of the eastern Venezuela petrochemical project.
