Noting the limitations of the thermodynamic and classical methods of computing detonation rates, this author proposes a description of detonation rates in terms of the properties of the high charge. Tables present the theoretical and experimental detonation rates for high explosives of limit density, and detonation parameters for trotyl and hexogene. Finding a fair agreement between theoretical and experimental results, the author concludes that his method of computing the detonation parameters on the basis of easily predictable characteristics permits determinations with a good degree of accuracy.
