Pennsylvania's oil production totaled 4,282,354 barrels in 1982, a 15 percent increase over 1981 production. Oil reserves decreased 2 percent from 50,946,000 barrels in 1981 to 49,764,000 barrels in 1982. Leading counties for production of oil were Warren, Venango, and McKean. In 1982 secondary recovery of oil in the Bradford field accounted for only 22 percent of the state total. New waterflood projects were begun in Forest, Venango, and Washington Counties, and old projects, both waterflood and microemulsion-polymer varieties, continued in Elk, Forest, McKean, Venango, and Warren Counties. Both of the state's microemulsion-polymer projects are located in the Bradford field, McKean County. Gas production decreased 1 percent from 122,454 million cubic feet in 1981 to 121,111 million cubic feet in 1982. Gas reserves increased 6 percent from 1,884,650 million cubic feet in 1981 to 1,997,029 million cubic feet in 1982. Stored recoverable gas also increased 6 percent, to 631,482 million cubic feet. The price for all crude oil and oil products declined in 1982 nationwide. The price of Penn Grade Crude oil was $35.00 per barrel on January 1, but dropped to $30.00 per barrel on March 16. Gas prices were subject to Natural Gas Policy Act price ceilings. The well-head price of one thousand cubic feet of natural gas ranged from a low of $0.25 under old contracts to $3.51 for stripper gas. The average price for gas was about $2.80. The total number of wells reported drilled in 1982 wads 4224, a 19 percent increase over 1981. A total of 1734 gas wells was reported in 1982, representing a 3 percent increase over 1981. Present activity within the Oil and Gas Geology Division of the Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey includes a combined revision of the oil and gas well record files and the oil and gas base map series. 34 figures.
