Municipal solid waste (MSW) has been estimated to contain, on the average, 10 to 11 percent glass, more than 90 percent of which is from flint (clear), amber, and green bottles and jars. Several different methods have been proposed--and experimented with--for recovering and reusing glass. This article reviews the principal uses for recovered glass and explains some of the technological and economic aspects of the recovery methods available.
