U. S. is driving industrial user from gas market

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

Federal policies which cycle natural gas supplies between surplus and shortage are driving industrial users to the fuel oil market, according to Mr. Moody. The increased demand for petroleum products is counter to national goals of reducing dependence on imported petroleum. The author justifies gas as an industrial boiler fuel on the grounds that such use stabilizes the market and protects the interests of residential users, gas producers, and pipeline companies as well as protecting natural gas as a fuel option. He reviews the history of the natural gas industry and increasing government interference with market forces. He refutes the assumption that industrial users will switch fuel but continue to return to natural gas when supplies are available.
