Belt-pulley type steplessly variable transmission having a reverse drive gear mechanism
This patent describes variable power transmission mechanism comprising an input member, a belt-pulley type transmission having an input shaft for carrying driving pulley means of a variable effective diameter, an output shaft for carrying driven pulley of variable effective diameter and belt for connecting the driving and driven pulley. Power can be transmitted between the driving and driven pulley means. Reverse gear means provided with a first idler shaft has an idler gear for engaging with input member and a second idler shaft has an intermediate gear in engagement with the idler gear of the first idler shaft. The first and second idler shafts are disposed in parallel with input member, output means are connected with the output shaft of the belt-pulley type transmission and the reverse gear. The first selecting means is provided on the input member for connecting the input member with the input shaft of the belt-pulley type transmission. Second selecting means is provided on the first idler shaft for connecting intermediate gear means of the second idler shaft with idler gear means of the first idler shaft. The first and second selecting means are located within substantially the same plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the input member. The first and second selecting means ae adapted to be actuated alternately to the respective engaged position. Driving power is transmitted from the input member through the reverse gear means to the output means in bypassing the belt-pulley type transmission when the reverse gear is actuated.
