Commentary:A power plant to be built near Quetico, Ontario, threatens to pollute the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota with acid rain. Sulfur dioxide and other pollutants would spew from the 650 ft stack of the proposed Atikokan Generating Station. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is only about 35 mi south of the power plant site. Environmental assessment documents focusing on this problem are accused of ignoring the fact that acid rain is especially toxic to regional flora. Other environmental concerns associated with the power plant project and recommendations for citizen actions are summarized. (1 drawing, 1 map)
