This patent describes an OHC valve actuating apparatus of an internal combustion engine having cylinders in one line and valves on each side of that line of cylinders. A single cam shaft rotatable is mounted and centered above the line of cylinders. A single rocker shaft is mounted and centered above the line of cylinders. Rocker arms are pivotally mounted on the rocker shaft, the rocker shaft being mounted between the cylinders and the cam shaft. Each rocker arm has means for engaging the cam shaft for causing pivoting of the rocker arm. Means for engaging a valve for causing opening of that valve upon the pivoting means is provided for mounting a spark plug above and substantially centered in each cylinder. The spark plug mounting means is inclined to one side a minimum amount sufficient to clear the cam shaft and the rocker shaft.
