Industrial catalysts of propylene polymerization are solid solutions of aluminum trichloride having the formula TiCl3 x nAlCl3. The main drawbacks of catalysts of this type are their moderate stereospecificity and activity; moreover, with their use it is necessary to remove the atactic polymer. The authors report the results of a study of propylene polymerization in the presence of the industrial catalytic system titanium trichloride-diethylaluminum chloride (DEAC) modified with diisoamyl ether (DIAE), and of the influence of the modification conditions on the activity and stereospecificity of the catalyst.
