Railroad energy study: regulation. Volume 2: rail-passenger transportation
The objectives of the study are to: provide a current, comprehensive, and accurate data base of railroad economic activity and energy consumption; describe planned and postulated expansion and the time frame of future developments; identify research and development needs related to improvements in energy utilization; and provide data that the federal government may use to determine its future role. This report identifies the institutions and reviews the general arrangements under which rail passenger transportation services are delivered by railroads and transit agencies in the United States. Attention is given to the many and varied agencies concerned with regulating, planning, constructing, equipping, operating, fare setting, financing, and subsidizing rail passenger services. (MCW)
