Low-frequency radio observations of the emission nebula NGC 2264

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6423243
The H II region NGC 2264 has been observed with the UTR-2 radio telescope at 12.6, 14.7, 16.7, 20, 25 MHz. The half-power resolution at 25 MHz was 28' x 36'. The brightness distribution is mapped at each frequency; the nebula appears distinctly in absorption against a brighter nonthermal radio background. Several physical parameters are determined for the H II region: T/sub e/ = 4100 +- 2500 /sup 0/K, emission measure 275 cm/sup -6/ pc, n/sub e/ = 2.7 cm/sup -3/. The average nonthermal radio-emission density in the medium between the sun and NGC 2264 at 12.6 MHz is 108 +- 20 /sup 0/K/pc.
