A vehicle suspension apparatus in a motor vehicle is described having an automatic transmission comprising: suspension units comprising fluid spring means containing means for housing a fluid for supporting at least the rear wheels of the vehicle; fluid supply means including fluid supply control valves for controlling the supply of the fluid to the fluid spring means; fluid exhaust means including fluid exhaust control valves for controlling the supply of the fluid away from the fluid spring means; and parking brake detecting means operatively connected to the parking brake and comprising means for detecting whether the parking brake is engaged or disengaged.
