Fuel cells: Trends in research and applications
This book reviews the status of fuel cell technology, future research and development needs, and potential applications. Ancillary objectives have been included to help define international cooperative activities. The research and development section offers a detailed analysis of R and D requirements for each type of fuel cell currently envisioned, specific recommendations on the electrochemistry-electrocatalysis of oxygen, and direct use of biomass and oxidation of ethanol/methanol. Some projections foresee a potential market for fuel cell electricity generation capacity to the year 2005 extending to 45,000 MW in the United States and 35,000 MW in Japan. In this book, the latest findings are included that show the trend of large-scale fabrication to sufficiently reduce costs to supply the predicted demands economically.
