Coal-pile treatment system is cost and space effective

Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co have installed a system for the treatment of coal-pile runoff at 3 of their power stations. The system uses a stepwise process of lime neutralisation, and high-rate clarifiers and thickeners. The clarifiers are compact and produce a sludge that is more stable and of less volume than conventional units.
