Title: On the reaction mechanism of an Al-TiO{sub 2}-B system for producing in-situ (Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} + TiB{sub 2})/Al composites

One example of in-situ processing of metal matrix composites is reactive sintering of an Al-TiO{sub 2}-B system resulting in (Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} + TiB{sub 2})/Al composites. But how the microstructure evolves from the starting material to the final product has not been understood. This study aims to investigate the formation mechanisms of Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} and TiB{sub 2} in Al matrix by XRD, DSC/DTA, light optical microscopy (LOM), SEM and EDS.
