Large magnets: where we are, and where we must go
Conference

OSTI ID:6421207
There is a great deal of interest in magnet technology. There are major projects in construction and serious planes for significant scale-ups; it is therefore of particular value to examine the process of scale-up. For example, some of the future magnets considered by the MHD and Fusion Communities seem very large relative to the present level of accomplishment. Topics discussed include large magnets for high energy physics, energy storage magnets, the Mirror fusion program as well as the tokamak program. Recommendations for a realistic test program are considered. 56 refs.
