Role of intramolecular Pd. Ph coordination in the stabilization of the binuclear complex Pd/sub 2/(PPh/sub 3/)/sub 2/

A CNDO calculation of the electronic structure of model structures of Pd/sub 2/(PPh/sub 3/)/sub 2/ has been performed for the purpose of studying the role of the intramolecular Pd...Ph coordination in the stabilization of the binuclear complex Pd/sub 2/(PPh/sub 3/)/sub 2/. The electronic factor determining the possibility of Pd...Ph coordination is the donor-acceptor interaction of the weakly filled 5s and 5p AO's of Pd with the filled orbitals of the aromatic rings, which results in lowering of the coordinative unsaturation of the Pd atoms in Pd/sub 2/L/sub 2/.
