In an arbitrary frame of reference, the Hamiltonian which describes the standard free electron laser (FEL) is generally explicitly time-dependent, posing difficulties in the analysis of FEL lasers from the many-particle viewpoint. Bambini and Renieri (1978, 1979) have devised a Lorentz transformation from the laboratory frame of reference to a novel, B-R frame in which the Hamiltonian ceases to be explicitly time-dependent. It is presently shown that the B-R frame is essentially equal to the resonant electron rest frame, in which the electron's complete motion is of necessity nonrelativistic. 6 references.
