The characteristics of heat transfer to horizontal tubes in the grid region of a gas-solid fluidized bed were studied by analyzing the rate of heat dissipation through the surface of an electrically heated tube. Artificial jets of different penetration depth and width were generated to determine their effects on the heat transfer rate. Experimental parameters include particle size, jet exit velocity, superficial gas velocity, heated tube location and distributor design. The observed heat transfer coefficients were correlated as a function of experimental parameters.
