The surface activity of mixed surfactant solutions is often greater than would be expected in the absence of any mutual influence between the surfactants. Largest effects are the synergistic effects in cation/anionic mixtures. This work reports and interprets equilibrium surface tension measurements for the system sodium dodecyl sulfate-dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide over a wide range of mixing ratios in solution. Some general aspects of cationic/anionic synergism are discussed. 14 references.
