Add-on stopper valve for existing piping

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6416122
The Institute of Gas Technology's new improved add-on valve design greatly simplifies and reduces the cost and time of add-on valve installation by allowing insertion in existing fluid piping systems without the need for a full cut-in and without shutdown or interruption of flow. The design consists of a holding chamber which is adapted to be fixed securely to the pipe, a gate valve assembly affixed to the holding chamber, a saw chamber and blade assembly, a pipe plug assembly with closure to stop the fluid flow, an insertion chamber assembly, and a completion bonnet. To install the add-on valve, the holding chamber is secured to the pipe, the gate valve assembly affixed to the holding chamber, and the saw chamber assembly affixed to the gate valve assembly. The gate valve is then opened and an opening is cut into the pipe with the saw of the saw chamber assembly. Next, the saw blade is retracted into the saw chamber assembly, the gate valve closed, and the saw chamber removed. The pipe plug assembly is then inserted into the insertion chamber and affixed to the gate valve unit, which is then opened before a pipe plug is secured within the holding chamber. The installation is completed by removing the gate valve assembly and the insertion chamber, and affixing the completion bonnet to the holding chamber.
