Study of copper-bearing catalysts used for methanol synthesis

Journal Article · · Pet. Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
The activity and selectivity of copper-bearing catalysts for methanol synthesis depends upon the state of copper at the surface of ..gamma..-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, the ratio between copper and zinc components and the intensity of the hydroxyl coating at the alumina surface. The formation of by-products is explained to a large extent by the ability of the catalytic system to form active hydrogen in sufficient quantity, as well as by the degree of oxidation of the copper component under conditions of catalysis.
