Beta thickness gauges are routinely used in the aluminum industry for the on-line measurement of aluminum sheet. Most gauges are configured with a C frame where the source is located below the sheet and the detector is positioned above the sheet. The sheet passes between the source and detector at an optimal position referred to in the industry as pass line. The pass-line position is usually determined by-the gauge design.
