Will the next Texas drilling boom chew up the Ouachita Overthrust Belt

Journal Article · · TIPRO Rep.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6413639
A new geophysical exploration and leasing play has been going on quietly in an area extending from southern Oklahoma to the southwest into central Texas and over to the far reaches of southwest Texas. With oil and gas discoveries at either end, it promises to be an area of protracted future drilling activity. Because of this new seismic and leasing activity, Texas royalty owners and producers are probably going to see continued interest in their portion of this region in the long-term future. The geological target is the Ouachita Overthrust Belt, which stretches clear across Texas for more than 800 miles, stretching from the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma in the broad arc to the Marathon Montains of southwest Texas. The band contains most of the Texas counties which do not now have oil and gas production.
