Multiple purpose well tools

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6411998
A well tool adapted to conduct a plurality of testing or treating operations has telescoping inner and outer tubular members. These members are arranged with portions of varying cross-sectional area and fluid seals so that 2 chambers are formed within the annulus, one of which is maintained at atmospheric pressure. Well bore fluids are admitted to the other chamber, which creates a hydrostatic pressure and displaces the inner member upward. At the same time, the pressure also pushes the outer member down. The relative displacement of these 2 tubular members is used to give a quantitative interpretation of the hydrostatic formation pressure. (12 claims)
