Solubility of Li/sub 2/S in LiF-LiCl-LiBr electrolyte measurements and calculations

The solubility of Li/sub 2/S in LiF-LiCl-LiBr electrolyte was determined at 739 and 773 K, by measuring the change in the emf of the Li-Al/Ni/sub 3/S/sub 2/ couple as the Li/sub 2/S concentration was changed in the electrolyte. The measured solubility values were 6840 + or - 300 ppm at 739 K and were 8700 + or - 300 ppm at 773 K. The Li/sub 2/S solubilities in different solvents have been calculated using the conformal ionic solution theory. The computed values are in very good agreement with experiments and confirm the strong dependence of the solubility on the composition.
