Rep. Williams of Montana explained his goals for H.R. 6542, which withdraws certain lands from mineral leasing that have special environmental significance to the people of his state and the wildlife of the rugged Bob Marshall Wilderness complex. His objection to exploratory drilling on these lands for natural gas is based on the devastation caused by the 343 leases already under development. The hearing record includes the text of HR 6542, statements by Rep. Williams and members of federal agencies, and additional material submitted for the record. (DCK)
