Alternative fuels: Natural gas vehicles
This report discusses the new market opportunities for natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and alternative fuels created by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct). The Act comprises a relatively well-rounded approach to a fuels policy that includes a combination of mandates, incentives, funding for research and development, public information dissemination, as well as important demonstration provisions. For the first time, Federal legislation demonstrates critical government leadership in purchasing alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) for the Federal fleet, the nation`s largest. Funding for a number of the programs has been authorized to be budgeted, but will have to be appropriated later by Congress and released to the various Federal agencies to be spent.
