Study of the dual water model based on log data

In 1976 a proposal was made to modify the Waxman Smits model for analysis of shaly sands. Central to the proposal was the concept that clayey formations contain two distinct waters; clay or bound water being the water adhered to clay particles and free water being the familiar connate or formation water. In this paper log evidence is presented to support the validity of the Dual Wate hypothesis. Presented first are the dielectric studies which originally suggested the possible existence of two waters. Then, evidence is offered from various field logs which respond to the amount and nature of formation waters. 4 refs.
