In a gas turbine engine having a core frame separable from a vane frame for removably attaching the vane frame to a core structure through a mid ring attachment, an improved mid ring is described comprising: an annular forward panel and an annular aft panel, each of the panels having a radially outer flange and a radially inner flange, the inner flanges being welded to the core frame and the outer flanges being bolted to the vane frame; and a plurality of circumferentially spaced stiffeners extending between the forward panel and the aft panel, each of the stiffeners comprising a first stringer extending diagonally from the radially inner flange of the forward panel to the radially outer flange of the aft panel and a second stringer extending diagonally from the radially inner flange of the aft panel to the radially outer flange of the forward panel.
