Lifetime effects in two-proton correlations in heavy ion collisions

Conference ·
OSTI ID:64057
Directional cuts in two-proton correlation measurements are used to disentangle the effects of size and lifetime of the emitting source. The importance of proper identification of the rest frame of the moving source is discussed. Longitudinal and transverse correlations for the reactions {sup 36}Ar+{sup 45}Sc at E/A=80 MeV and {sup 129}Xe+{sup 27}Al at E/A=31 MeV are presented. The method is shown to be sensitive to timescales consistent with fast decay as well as statistical evaporation.
