The [alpha]-particle clustering structure of [sup 94]Mo and [sup 212]Po, which is of interest for investigating the persistence of [alpha] clustering in heavy nuclei, is studied within the framework of a local potential approach using a double folding model. It is shown that the model, which describes [alpha] scattering from [sup 90]Zr well, locates the ground state of [sup 94]Mo at the energy corresponding to experiment. A similar result was obtained for the [alpha]+[sup 208]Pb system. It is found that the model gives not only the ground band of [sup 94]Mo and [sup 212]Po as compact [alpha]-cluster states but also predicts other developed genuine [alpha]-cluster states below and near the Coulomb barrier.
