Backward-angle anomaly in. cap alpha. +/sup 40/Ca scattering and molecular vibrational states in /sup 44/Ti

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The mechanism of the backward-angle anomaly in ..cap alpha..+ /sup 40/Ca scattering is studied from the ..cap alpha..-cluster viewpoint with a deep potential which fits the ..cap alpha..-cluster structure of /sup 44/Ti at low excitation energy, fusion data, and elastic scattering. It is found that the backward-angle anomaly is due to the persistent existence of the three molecular vibrational bands with the ..cap alpha..+ /sup 40/Ca cluster structure in /sup 44/Ti whose relative motions are excited.
