Gamma-ray transitions in. Lambda. Lambda. hypernuclei

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6402159
Hypernuclei containing two lambda particles are important because of the unique information they hold concerning the {Lambda}{Lambda} interaction and because of their relationship to proposals for new particles and new states of matter containing multiple strangeness. They are the non-exotic form of strange matter. Intense K{sup {minus}} beams with momentum near 1.8 Gev/c will make it possible to study {Lambda}{Lambda} hypernuclei. The (K{sup {minus}},K{sup +}) reaction can be used to form double hypernuclei directly, or through {Xi}{sup {minus}} hyperons which are subsequently slowed down and captured ({Xi}{sup {minus}}p{yields}{Lambda}{Lambda}). This paper will discuss characteristics {gamma}-ray transitions which may be used as a signature for the existence of double hypernuclei. 5 refs.
